200 Hour and 500 Hour Programs

Kim Manfredi conducts the yoga teacher training at Charm City Yoga. We offer two trainings, a 200 hour certification and a 500 hour certification. Our next 200 hour training will commence in October 2008 and conclude in the spring 2009. Kim will then conduct a 500 hour training in the Spring 2009.

Both programs exceed the required hours of instruction with a great deal of personal attention. The programs are low residency, with the 200 hour program typically scheduled over nine weekends spaced over 3 to 4 months. A weekend consists of Friday evening from 7 to 10:30 pm, Saturday from 12:30 to 8:30 pm, and Sunday from 8 am to 4 pm

The 200 Hour Program - Becoming a Transformational Teacher


The Charm City Yoga Center 200 hour teacher training is for all serious students of yoga who want to deepen their practice and learn how to share it with others. Teaching is a wonderful way to move into the art of giving yoga. In that giving, as teachers, we learn that to give is to receive, equally important in health and life. In this training you will learn to teach not only asana (postures), but all eight limbs of yoga. The eight limbs include Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharna, Dhyana and Samadhi. You will learn to teach classes that are a dynamic expression of your personal relationship to the practice. Your life and your teaching will become an example that inspires others to live in accordance with the yoga tradition of peace and happiness. This unique expression of your yoga will join your individual light with the collective light of the sages who have come before you in the name of union.

Topics Include

  • The dialogue and hands on training to assist, teach and provide modifications for 45 asanas
  • How to practice and teach the six pranayama techniques
  • How to practice and teach meditation
  • An understanding of basic anatomy including the skeletal and muscular systems, and how to include this knowledge in your teaching
  • An understanding of basic physiology including respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems, and how to incorporate this knowledge in your teaching
  • The principles of sequencing – a study that provides deeper understanding by looking at the order of poses used in the Astanga, Sivananda, Bikram, Viniyoga, and Iyengar styles of yoga
  • Readings on topics such as diet, the lives of saints and sages, anatomy, and philosophy, including the Upanishads, Patanjalis Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita
  • Introduction to the subtle body and how to include it in your teaching. Areas of study include the Ida, Pingala, Shushumna, Vayus and the Seven Chakras
  • The structure and chaos of flow in yoga
  • How to use touch and voice as a teaching tool
  • Embracing your personal yoga and teaching from the center

The Training Schedule is as follows

  • November 21, 22, 23,
  • December 5, 6, 7,
  • January 9, 10, 11,
  • January 30, 31, February 1,
  • February 20, 21, 22 (Residential Weekend) and
  • March 6, 7, 8.
  • All sessions meet: Fridays from 7:30 pm-10:00 pm, Saturdays from 12:30-8:00 pm and Sundays from 8:00 am-4:00 pm.

The 500 Hour Program – Becoming an Advanced Instructor

The advanced teacher training is for all 200 hour certified teachers who want to deepen their relationship to teaching and to their personal practice of yoga. As we continue to share our wisdom and dive deeper into the exploration of our personal practices the subtleties of the art of yoga emerge. This training will give you the tools you need to teach those subtleties and integrate their benefits into all aspects of your life. You will carry your practice and your teaching to an exquisite level of expression. This level of teaching will illustrate your mastery of balancing body, heart, and spirit in a fully enlivened class. We will use a palette derived from the tools given us by Patanjalis and other great sages to paint classes that will transform your teaching into a class that will transform your students’ lives.

 

Topics covered

  • The dialogue and hands on assists and modifications for 32 advanced asanas.
  • Practice and learn to teach seven advanced pranayama techniques
  • Practice and learn to teach seven shat kriyas as described in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
  • Advanced readings on topics including diet, ayruveda, anatomy, systems of Indian philosophy, ethics, styles of yoga including vinyasa, yin, and structural yoga therapy, the Sutras and the Gita
  • Advanced study of classical methodology in teaching about the subtle body
  • How to use and teach mudras and locks during asanas as a  pathway to enlightenment
  • How to teach yoga nidra
  • How to lead a transformational class including creating space for emotional release, creating a sacred space and teaching from a place of knowledge and understanding.
  • How to teach and experience samyama as described by Patanjalis
  • Introductions to the components of a classes for specialized populations, including pre- natal, seniors, kids, and fibromyalgia
  • Anatomy as it relates to advanced postures and includes knowledge of connective tissue, the lymphatic system, strain and counterstrain, normal range of motion, and kinesiology
  • Teaching and relaxing with the breath as guru
  • Teaching and relaxing with the koshas as guru
  • Teaching with props and partners

Training

The Training Schedule will consist of 9 weekends, starting in May 2009.

Prerequesite

Completed 200 hour RYS Program.

The cost for this training is $2,200.00

In addition to the tuition you will be asked to buy books and pay for yoga classes. You will be asked to take two classes per week during the duration of the training.

 


About the Teacher

Kim Manfredi began studying yoga and meditation in 1988 to facilitate healing from an injury resulting in four broken vertebrae. Her healing was so miraculous she became a teacher to share the practice with others. Kim has studied with many teachers and traditions, which include Patabhi Jois founder of the Astanga Institute in Mysore, India; Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Spiritual Leader of the Himalayan Institute; and in the United States: Shiva Rea, Kripalu, Baron Baptiste, Bikram, Beryl Bender Birch, Doug Swenson and Rod Stryker.
